Hi, friends of Tig-Le House, We hope you are all doing well and happy and that you enjoyed welcoming in the new year. We look forward to the year ahead and cultivating a shared, mindful peace. Each day represents a new year’s opportunity to develop our compassionate natures, strengthen the bonds of friendship, love, and care with ourselves and others, and discover increasingly how to hold this life dear. We have had a good rest from running group sessions and retreats and are getting prepared to open for the first term of 2025. Booking in advance helps us plan and provide opportunities for anyone who wishes to join. Wednesday Dharma Study and Practice Group, 29th January – 12th March, 7pm – 8:30pm. @ Tig-Le House. Term topic: Theravada Dhamma In the first series of Buddha-Dharma teachings for 2025, we explore the Theravada Dhamma and associated meditative practices within a universalist tradition encompassing both secular and sacred elements. Attending the sessions weekly is recommended as we move through teaching sequentially, as outlined in the Theravada Dhamma Puja text (provided). The first two sessions cover essential foundational instructions on practice, making it advantageous to attend these classes. Book ahead here at Wednesday Dharma Group or contribute via direct debit or in person on the day. The recommended amount is $20 – $30 pp / session. Traditionally, mindfulness and guidance in the Theravada Dhamma Tradition are prerequisites for advancing to further studies and practices, such as those explored in the Mahayana and Vajrayana Vehicles in terms two and four. This is for the good psychological health and stability of all involved. *If you want to study Buddhist teachings and practices in these Vehicles, please join this dedicated study and practice group. This Buddha-Dhamma retreat with Lama Sonam is an opportunity to dedicate a block of time to practice exploring the teachings attributed to the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gotama. The retreat focuses on mindfulness and meditative practices through the “Theravada Dhamma” Puja Text written by Tig-Le House, based on the Coorain text and other sources. The text is a collection of prayers, principles and teachings, providing a rich source of inspiration and guidance. Each participant will receive a copy of the text and accompanying reference book. The retreat offers a balance of group sessions with Dhamma talks, Puja practice, mindfulness and meditation, personal practice, teacher dialogues, respite and support. We explore core teachings daily, including The Four Noble Truths, The Noble Eightfold Path/The Threefold Training, Threefold Refuge, Dukkha, Anicca, Anatta and others, and how understanding and practice support a deeper Refuge. Booking is essential via the booking link Theravada Dhamma Retreat March 2025. Participants are required to attend the whole retreat as teaching unfolds sequentially, step-by-step, following a line of inquiry, instruction and practice. Other Happenings We have edited and reprinted the “Theravada Dhamma Puja” text, which will be used for the Dhamma group and retreat this term. We have expanded the text, adding principles and translations of traditional teaching. Our first book, “Dhamma Wisdom,” is at the publishers, and we are hopeful it will be completed in time for the Theravada Dhamma retreat at Coorain in March. We’re excited. Writing a reference and teaching book is a large and welcome project. We will have copies available at Tig-Le and online soon. Did you know the Tig-Le Library is open to borrowing for those who attend sessions? Books are signed out and returned throughout the term; please ask before borrowing them. Some books have been out for some time. If you have any at home, we would love to see them returned for others to borrow—Many thanks. Letters of Peace. We are starting a writing group. The aim is to create a set of short letters that can be sent to people in positions of influence who need support to act in the best interest of peace, health and harmony, mindful living.
